Wishing Upon a Star: The Journey from Dreams to Action
#31 How Shooting Stars Revealed What Truly Matters and Taught Me the Value of Hard Work
Hey! I am so grateful to have you back at my blog. Your subscription means the world to me. ❤️ In order to get to know you better, here is a question for you: “What would you wish if you see a shooting star?” 😊
Now jumping into today’s blog:
The Quiet Charm of Rötha
My students often ask me how my life was growing up in Germany. Well, it was like this:
I grew up as a German-Vietnamese in a small town in Germany called Rötha. Well, it was actually a village with around 4,000 people living there. Rötha has always been a tiny quiet village, with literally nothing going on. The one kebab store, the football field, and the lake were the places where I spent my childhood.
Finding Peace Under the Stars
In summer, I would go to the lake at 10 PM whenever I felt stressed or overwhelmed. I would sit there alone to watch stars. Especially in August, I would enjoy the series of shooting stars that would appear every other minute and make a wish.
Wishing that I had more cool stuff.
Wishing that I had a more relaxed life.
Wishing for all sorts of things that were randomly on my mind.
The Magic and Reality of Shooting Stars
When I was younger, I believed that seeing a shooting star would make my wish come true and take away all the worries and pain I had accumulated. Even if it was only mental, I saw it as a promise from the universe to fix my problems.
As an adult, I still enjoy watching shooting stars and making my wish, but this time with another reason:
Shooting stars don’t make your wish come true, but they show you what is truly important to you.
Connecting with Purpose
Whenever I get the chance to see a shooting star, I take a deep breath, close my eyes, and run through all the things that have been on my mind, digging deeper until I find my inner voice. It is a wonderful way to remind myself of the truly important things in life. I make my wish and feel reconnected to my purpose.
From Wishful Thinking to Action
But does it stop here? Nope.
Wishing for something but not taking action is similar to wishful thinking. A quote that I recently heard underlined the importance of working for your dream:
All the things that I want are in the hard work that I try to avoid.
Without effort, nothing will be accomplished in the long run. By practicing self-discipline and working on myself, I want to become the person who can live his purpose to the fullest.
Adapting to New Realities
Even though I live in Ho Chi Minh City now and can’t see shooting stars due to light pollution, I’ve adapted my approach. Instead, I use a technique called “scatter focus” of the book Hyperfocus (Chris Bailey). It’s simply taking a piece of paper, observing your thoughts, and noting them down. Collecting ideas that bubble up while simply observing.
Once I’ve noted down all the random thoughts, I highlight the one I truly want to focus on and find strategies to solve that problem and make my wish come true.
#mydailylearning
We need to be aware and find what is truly important to us. Sometimes a priority list or a shooting star can help us. Then we need to put in the effort to make things happen, because nothing comes on its own.
Thanks for reading to the end and I wish you an awesome day full of kindness and positivity. See you next Sunday morning for a new blog of #sonofavietkieu. 🥰

The idea of putting your thoughts down on a note is so cool, I will definitely practice hehe.🌟
Thanks for sharing Thomas, and the memes brought out such uplifting spirit even though the tone in general is more neutral 😆🌟
We're alike in that we both enjoy doing things the easy way, but life has a different plan 🤣
